Self Help Tips For Professionals

We are confronted daily at work, and in our personal lives, with the need to make decisons. Sometimes the outcome of our decisons is not very important, other times the results of these decisions are crucial. Here are some tips that will help you make more effective decisions you can live with.

Effective Decision Tips


1. Become aware that a decision needs to be made.
Awareness is the first step in moving toward resolution of a problem/situation.

2. Make a list of ALL your options, no censoring, no judging whether it's feasible or not.
Brainstorming ideas on paper generates creativity toward what is possible.

3. Now list your choices within each option.
This is a sub-list that helps you hone in with more detail added to the picture.

4. Write down how you feel about each option/choice.
Decide whether this is something you can live with; does it come to you naturally or is it too much of a stretch?

5. List your priorities and match these up with your options/choices.
Your priorities must align with your options/choices in order for you to follow through with action.

6. Designate a choice; i.e., choose!
Now that you have all the lists in front of you, make a choice.

7. Get all the components of your choice in order.
Getting the various pieces of your choice lined up in order will move you toward action.

8. Commit to the decision.
Begin to assimilate the decision you've made into your mindset.

9. Believe that you can make your decision work.
Decide that you will do this. Allow yourself few contingency plans. No excuses.

10. Lastly, take action to make it happen.
Planning and listing is not worthwhile unless you take the action you need to make it happen. Just do it!
