Joint Health & Safety Committees WorkshopOverviewWorkers and Employers must share the responsibility for health and safety. The concept of an Internal Responsibility System is based on the principal that both the workers and management are in the best position to identify health and safety hazards in their own workplace. The Occupational Health and Safety Act was established in October 1979 and was revised in 1990 to give specific powers to workers to establish Joint Health and Safety Committees. The committee is an advisory group comprised of worker and management representatives who's role is to improve the health and safety of it's workers by discussing health and safety concerns, reviewing progress and making recommendations on how to improve worker safety and eliminate or control potential health hazards. “Our committee needed structure and terms of reference. This course will serve as a great template as we move forward with our roles as joint health and safety members.” ~BMR Direct |
