Valuing Diversity In The Workplace Workshop - Building Bridges to Understanding

Overview
Our increasingly diverse society is reflected in our growing workforce diversity. As this dramatic shift to a highly diverse workforce continues, organizations large and small must continue to strive to help all employees embrace and capitalize on their differences. The cultural backgrounds and experiences of diverse employees and customers can deeply enrich the organization, making it more innovative and globally competitive.

Realizing the benefits of diversity means meeting the diversity challenge through self-awareness and commitment. Hidden resentments and misperceptions can impact company productivity, profitability, and most importantly, employee motivation and satisfaction. Diversity is about learning to truly communicate with one another. Diversity is about learning to value the contribution each person brings to the process.

“The most important concept I gained during this workshop will help me be more objective, know how to adapt to meet other people's needs.”

~Christine De Grandpre, Learning Tree International

Who Should Attend
This workshop has been developed to help all employees and managers look at themselves and identify attitudes and behaviours that stand in the way of their ability to embrace the differences in people. Valuing diversity must go deeper than just compliance; it must become part of an organization's culture.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understanding your behavioural tendencies and how they effect others.
  • Enhance your effectiveness accomplishing tasks by improving relationships.
  • Improve communication through understanding.
  • Increase your appreciation of different work-styles.
  • Develop effective managing and coaching techniques.
  • Learn how to foster teamwork.
  • Learn to understand, respect, appreciate, and value differences.
Workshop Agenda:
  1. Knowledge - Stereotypes and Information are assessed as participants explore what they actually know about differences and where that knowledge comes from.
  2. Understanding - Awareness and Empathy are measured as participants discover how willing they are to put themselves in a position to feel what others may be feeling.
  3. Acceptance - Tolerance and Respect are examined as participants assess how patient and respectful they are of diverse behaviours and backgrounds.
  4. Behaviour - Self-awareness and Interpersonal Skills are measured as insight is provided into how participants act out their attitudes towards others.
